We all have different temperaments, learning styles, personalities and backgrounds that make some ways of connecting with God more readily productive than others. Different spiritual traditions have favored certain methods over others for a variety of theological and cultural reasons and while this has helped some for whom those methods were effective, it has also caused guilt and inhibition in many for whom those same methods have not been helpful.

We live in a beautiful world. It is true that there are many aspects to our world that are harsh, dark and even ugly but none of us can deny that we live on a planet of unspeakable, breathtaking beauty. People in the Christian tradition have different ways of interpreting the first few chapter of the Bible in Genesis chapters 1-11; but there is great agreement about the fact that all of creation, all of this beauty was brought into existence through and by God and that the universe is sustained through God’s love and power.
