CHURCH COMMUNITY NEWS

1.           Harvest Festival (One church service at 10:00 AM)

The Harvest Festival, October 17, will be an all-church gathering— a day to praise God for the abundance in our lives. We will celebrate the farm, including pumpkin harvest, games, and a meal together. One Sunday service at 10:00 AM with all ages together.

2.           Burtonsville Day

Come serve our local community on September 25 at this annual neighborhood event where we
will be picking up trash and helping with clean up. We will be providing two crews. Meet at Paint Branch High School parking lot at 9:30 AM and follow the Cedar Ridge hay wagon at the back of procession to pick up trash. Or meet at the Marilyn J. Praisner Community Center at 3:00 PM to help clean up. Both crews will serve for about an hour. Please sign up in the lobby on Sundays, September 12 and 19. For more details contact Elaine Hill.

GETTING CONNECTED: OPPORTUNITIES TO LIVE, LEARN, AND GROW WITH CEDAR RIDGE

3.           Discipleship Series and Group Signups

In October we will begin a new discipleship series: Longing for Friendship: Daring to Draw Close.  During this series we will be meeting in small groups, engaging in meaningful opportunities to strengthen our relationships.  Many groups continue meeting and new groups will be forming.  If you would like to become involved in a discipleship group or find out more about them, signup at the table in the commons available after each Sunday service on September 19 and 26, or contact Patsy Fratanduono.

4.           Discipleship Group Leader Meeting

If you are a current, past or aspiring small group leader, please join us on Tuesday, September 21 from 7:00-9:00 PM. Contact Patsy Fratanduono  to RSVP for Tuesday meeting or for more information. If you are unable to attend that meeting, please plan to attend the quarterly leader gathering on Sunday, September 26, after second service from 12:45-3:00 PM where we will discuss plans for the fall and beyond and spend time supporting group leaders for the new discipleship series.

5.           Commitment Sunday and Church-wide Potluck

On September 19  we will celebrate New Members (from The Journey), Child Dedications, and Baptisms. If you are interested in participating, please contact Betsy Mitchell Henning by Wednesday, September 15. We will also have a Church-wide Potluck after the 11:00 AM service. We hope you’ll join us. Start thinking about what you’d like to bring.

6.           Prayer Practice

The third Thursday of each month there is an opportunity to join with others and take time to slow down from the busyness and stress of life. We engage in different methods of prayer together that may help us be more deeply present to God and to our lives in the present moment. All are welcome to join us on  Thursday, September 16, from 7:00-9:00 PM in the first floor of the barn. No registration or prior experience required. No food or childcare. Contact Patsy Fratanduono for more information.

GETTING INVOLVED: MEETING NEEDS IN OUR CHURCH, COMMUNITY, AND WORLD

7.           Completing our Children and Youth Ministry Teams

As we prepare to kickoff a new ministry year, we are looking for a few more key players to help our younger people follow Jesus. Specifically, we are looking for adults or teens who can serve on a regular basis (weekly, biweekly, or other) with these groups.

  • 9:00 AM: Preschool helper, K-1st grade helper
  • 11:00 AM: Nursery, 2-3 year old helper, K-1st grade helper, 2nd-3rd grade leader and helper, 4th-5th grade leader and helper

Our middle school and high teams would welcome your involvement as well.

If you want to find our more, please contact Bryan Peterson at 301-384-7444 (ext. 25) as soon as possible. Thanks, and go team!

8.           Fall Quarterly Leaders' Gathering

All Cedar Ridge leaders from all ministry areas are warmly invited to our Fall Quarterly Leadership Gathering on Sunday, September 26, 12:45-3:30 PM after second service on the lower level or the barn. We'll be looking back over the past quarter and sharing plans for the fall and beyond. Come and give feedback and share your input. A simple lunch of homemade soup and bread will be provided. Sign up on our website and let us know if you can bring soup.

9.           Global Engagement at Cedar Ridge

Good things are happening with Global Engagement at Cedar Ridge! We are very excited about the relationships we’re building with our friends in Ipala, Guatemala and with Ipaltecos in the DC metro area. Currently the team is exploring a Habitat for Humanity project in Guatemala and planning events for fall here with the local Guatemalan community. If you are interested in these or other Global Engagement opportunities and upcoming plans, contact Charles Guedenet.

10.       Opportunities to Serve on Sunday Mornings at Cedar Ridge

We need people to join our greeter team and help make Cedar Ridge a friendly and welcoming place each Sunday morning. It only takes coming 20 minutes before a service once a month. Please contact Kirk Hoffman or catch him in the Commons.

11.       Our Community, Our Farm

In 2008-2009, Cedar Ridge prayerfully considered the ways in which we could use our property to serve God in line with our vision. We believe our farm will provide opportunities for personal spiritual growth, for growing in authentic community and for serving each other and our neighbors.
