June 2011 Bulletin

Issue:
June 2011

What We’re Doing This Month

During June we continue our spring discipleship series "Awakening to the Life Within" exploring themes to help us grasp a deeper awareness of God's powerful Love within us and around us. Drawing primarily from the gospel of John¸ this is a gentle invitation to embrace the incredible reality of who we are called to be as followers of Jesus: God's offspring and image in the world.

Towards the end of the month we begin our annual "God in the Movies" series. Each week we will examine a film and look at spiritual themes and ways in which God can speak to us through this art form. This is a great opportunity to get together with your small group or friends to watch one or more of the movies and to discuss their impact on us.

Join Our Children's Ministry Summer Team

We are currently forming a team of parents, leaders, helpers, and new volunteers who will serve kids on Sunday mornings this summer. We need  volunteers for nursery, preschool, and elementary groups. If you are interested, please contact Bryan Peterson, visit our children's ministry table in the Commons, or sign up online via our Children's page.

You can also sign up online at one of the following links:

To sign up for 9AM, visit here.

Our Playground

Be prepared to have fun, laugh, squeal and enjoy yourself when you visit our playground in the meadow to the left of the main building. Bring a picnic and have a good time on our grounds as you scramble, run and tumble with your little ones.

Cedar Ridge Farm

Our farm is a concrete way we serve our vision of transformation and our mission of experiencing growth, community and servanthood. April and May rains slowed our start, but it’s amazing how life is taking off! We are growing potatoes, peas, onions, radishes and eggplant, to name a few items.

This year we are trying to make signups available through our Cedar Ridge website calendar. Create an account here  and then find a slot that works for you. You’ll even get a reminder email a couple of days before your commitment. Please contact Kirk Hoffman if you need any help with either online or offline signups.

Here's how you can join in:

1. Go out and take a look. Two clips hold the farm gate shut. Unhook it, slide it open and wander around to get the lay of the land.

2. Sign up online for a farm work time. Go to the Cedar Ridge website and check the June calendar for a time slot that works for you. Sign up, and you’ll get a reminder (plus we’ll know who to expect.)

3. Just come work. There is a white board in the farm shed that lists the most needed tasks. You can come at any time, pick a task and get to work on a self-serve basis.

We appreciate you as part of our community.

(Montgomery County Student Service Learning Hours are also available for those who need them.)

The Labyrinth at Cedar Ridge

Our Labyrinth is a beautiful installation of stone in a serene setting in the meadow behind and on the right of the main building. A labyrinth is an ancient tool for prayer and peace, its winding path symbolizing the beauty and complexity of the spiritual journey. All are welcome to walk the path to the center of the labyrinth to experience calm and healing of mind, body and spirit. For additional information on the labyrinth, please pick up a brochure from the commons.

Discipleship Groups

Many people at Cedar Ridge meet regularly as groups in homes throughout the region to share life together, and will be interacting with content related to the Discipleship series. Some of our groups have space for new people. If you would like to register for a group, contact Laura Moffitt.

Opportunities to Serve

  • Help Needed To Run Sound & Screen Projection on Sunday Mornings: We need more sound operators and screen projectionists for our Sunday morning services. Please consider serving just once a month. Previous experience is helpful (especially for sound), and we will provide training. You will get to be part of a very fun team. Contact Matthew Dyer for more information.
  • Property Workdays: Every other Saturday (June 4, June 18 and July 2) from 8AM-noon is the time when our community gathers to care for our buildings and land (mowing, weeding, cleaning and occasionally construction). Contact Mark Hartley to join us.
  • Greeters: Please contact Kirk Hoffman for details.
