Starting on Sunday, January 15 our kids will be trying to find out "The Best Thing of All." Our leaders and helpers will be guiding our youngest members on this journey into the life and letter of this important Christian leader named Paul. Here are some key elements of the series.
ELEMENTARY: We'll start out by getting a feel for where the New Testament and Philippians fits into the great, big story of God. Then, we'll discover some of the exciting adventures of Paul - from Acts 9 and Acts 16. Beginning on January 19, we'll start digging into Philippians, where we'll discuss following Jesus even when it's hard, being humble like Jesus, the best thing of all (knowing Jesus), and experiencing God's peace. There will be a variety of art projects, games, conversations, and stories along the way, as children travel between the arena, the jail, and the artisan's shop. We'll also encourage kids to do some things at home with their family during the week (see below).
PRESCHOOL: Preschoolers will follow a similar schedule, but will focus more on some of the stories of Paul and people in the Philippian church. They'll learn about the Bible and how it fits together, and then interact with the stories of Paul and Jesus, Paul and Lydia, Paul and the Jailer. They'll learn what it means to help others, and find out the Best Thing of All. We'll be memorizing a Bible verse with them, adapted from Philippians 3:8: "Knowing Jesus is the best thing of all."
AT-HOME ACTIVITIES: On this site you'll find a document that includes some things that we'll encourage children(especially elementary-age ones) to do at home - including Bible reading, Scripture memory, and Paul's prayer. We encourage parents and caregivers to talk with children about what they're learning and consider working through these practices together.
SPECIAL THANKS: I'm grateful to Leigh-Ellen Curl and Betsy Mitchell-Henning for working alongside of me to put together this series.
TAKE THE JOURNEY WITH US! I hope you're excited to hear about "The Best Thing of All." To do this series well, we need a few more teens or adults to join us as helpers on Sunday mornings. Please contact Bryan Peterson at bry...@crcc.org to find out more.
