CR Children's Ministry is For the Birds (at least on Nov. 13)

Logo - Cedar Ridge Community Church

On Sunday, November 13, at 11:00am,  the Cedar Ridge Children's Ministry will be hosting some special guests - birds.  Real birds - like hawks and owls and other winged creatures!  Personnel from a Maryland State park will be bringing these birds to allow us to see them and learn about them up close.  This will be for both elementary and preschool students, and will last for one hour (though we'll probably let the younger kids go back to their regular rooms a little earlier).  We will most likely meet in Room 202. » Read more

As Free as a Bird: Following Jesus Everyday

Logo - Cedar Ridge Community Church

Beginning October 9, our preschoolers and elementary students will take flight into a new series called, "As Free as a Bird:  Following Jesus Everyday."  It's the companion to our community-wide Discipleship Series on the Sermon on the Mount. Through teaching, artwork, skits, nature walks, conversation, and games, we'll be discussing topics such as following Jesus when I'm mad, when I'm holding a grudge, when I want what I can't have, when people make my life hard, when I want more stuff, and when I'm worried.  We'll be learning the "Letting Go Prayer" that will help them deal with struggles at school or home.  We'll also be following the bird theme throughout, as we consider what Jesus meant when he said, "look at the birds of the air...." » Read more

Serve Kids This Summer - You Can Sign Up Right Here!

School is almost over and vacations are about to start, but we're still committed to help children follow Jesus throughout the summer months.  Several of our regular leaders take a well-deserved break during the summer, and others are away on certain Sundays.  In order to fill out our Sunday morning schedule, I'm inviting parents, leaders, helpers, "substitutes," and people who are new to our children's ministry to join our Children's Ministry Summer Team.  Our format is pretty relaxed and lessons require little or no preparation for volunteers.  We reduce our need for leaders by combining ages a bit.  Also, be aware that we've had a "baby boom" and are in need of additional nursery workers, especially at 11am, so please consider this option as well. » Read more

New Children's Series: "Connecting with God"

Logo - Cedar Ridge Community Church

Children are spiritual beings, yet often in the course of their everyday lives they have little opportunity to listen to God and develop  a deepening relationship with God.  From May 8 through June 12, the children of Cedar Ridge will be experiencing different ways of "Connecting with God" through prayer. Similar in content to "Awakening to the Life Within," this series will help children learn the value of creating their own breath prayers, silence, giving thanks, praying the Scriptures, and checking in with God each night.    In our elementary groups, kids will rotate through a specially designed prayer room, a hands-on activity room, and a gathering room.  Preschoolers will interact with similar content in age-appropriate ways. » Read more

Exploring Genesis (and Discovering the God We Can Trust)

Logo - Cedar Ridge Community Church

We're going exploring!  This winter, children will be exploring the book of Genesis and discovering there the God we can trust.  Starting January 23, students will meet at 9am or 11am and look into the stories and message of the first book of the Bible.  Elementary children are invited to bring their own Bibles, and to read throughout the week (in case you're interested, we typically use the New International Readers Version - NIrV).  Attached you can find an outline for this series.  Passages will align with our community-wide "Origins" series.

Two resources that we'll be using periodically in the series, and which may be helpful for families, are: » Read more

Children's Series this Summer

Logo - Cedar Ridge Community Church

We're finishing up our series about prayer and worship, and will begin a God in the Movies Series for children. The new series will go from July 4th through August 8th. We'll watch longer clips and sections of movies, and will talk about how they relate to a characteristic of God, the person of Jesus, or an aspect of following Christ.

Featured movies for preschoolers are:

Disney Earth - a documentary about the natural world, and its animals. We'll discuss creation and empathy for the things God has created. July 4th and 11th. » Read more

How to get involved with Children's Ministry this Summer

How individuals can get involved:

  • Sign up to help on occasional dates over the summer, as your schedule allows. You can sign up for the dates, service times, and age group you choose. On those days when you signed up to take part, you’ll assist one of our leaders with their group of children. This is a simple and easy step you can take to support our children as they grow and learn this summer. There are dates throughout the summer when we are in need of assistants.
